Have you ever heard about biophilic design? Neither had I, until I met Johanna.
Johanna Winter is an interior designer specialized in biophilic design – a concept within interior design which tries to bring us closer to nature.
Most of us live in cities and we spend up to 90% of our time indoors. Nature did not design us to spend this much time inside buildings, and this takes its toll on our physical and mental wellbeing. Have you ever thought about why you feel like your mood has lifted after a walk outside? Does spending time in nature make you feel good? It’s a reason for this. Surrounding ourselves with nature, green colors, natural materials like wood, and running water, has a direct effect on our wellbeing.
An unexplored area
Johanna followed her curiosity and huge interest for nature and peoples wellbeing and went down the rabbit hole of biophilic design. She has her own company, Johanna Winter Studio, and is working on gradually building it to be a profitable business. This area is unknown for many of us, but after having this conversation with Johanna, I can see that it is very much needed!
Today we are creating our spaces more and more “clean”, white and sterile, and we have to a large degree forgotten to use nature as elements when we decorate our homes and public spaces.
